What's in my Hospital Bag?

As promised, I am doing a full run-down of what is in our hospital bags. I do the full packing in my IGTV video *(watch below!) but wanted to make sure you all had the links for specific items you may be interested in. Before you read the below, I want to highlight a few caveats: 1. I am a first-time mom (obviously) so I cannot speak to what is completely necessary. We packed these bags based on recommendations from friends, my doctor/doula, and the FF family. 2. I believe this is somewhat “minimalistic”, but I’m sure many will disagree. 3. The bags are packed and ready to go, so please don’t send me lists of things to add!

I hope this helps any moms-to-be in deciding what to include in their bags! I’ve inserted notes below now that I’ve delivered on what I used versus didn’t.

For me (in our Away suitcase):

  • Extended iphone charger: HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • Pillow and Pillow cases: HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The hospital pillows are shit

  • Comfy blanket: HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Didn’t think I would use this, but probably the best thing I packed

  • Clip-on battery operated fan: I didn’t end up using, but could see why it’d be helpful

  • Towel (if buying off Brooklinen, “freckledfoodie” gets you $20 off) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • Toiletries (I used all of the below)

    • Face wash

    • Face oil

    • Brush

    • Chapstick

    • Toothbrush & toothpaste

    • Shampoo / conditioner

    • Body wash

    • Deodorant

    • Nipple balm

  • Socks

  • Underwear

  • Sleep dresses (longsleeve and shortsleeve): loved these as an option to throw on

  • Outfit to wear home

  • Slippers: I never used, but understand why people would want

  • Shower shoes

  • Hair ties

  • Speaker: highly recommend if you are someone who likes having music playing! We used ours in the delivery room and as a sound machine for our son at night

  • Eye mask: I never used, but understand why people would want

  • Ear plugs: I never used, but understand why people would want

  • Masks & chains

  • Hakka and a Pumping bra: I never used in the hospital because I was focused on breast feeding, but understand why people would want if they are pumping

  • Nursing bra HIGHLY RECOMMEND

  • Cooler for placenta

  • Tumbler with straw: HIGHLY RECOMMEND! You NEED something with a straw for your partner to hold for you while you drink when you are doing all of the maternity things and especially while breast feeding

  • Laptop & charger

  • Headphones

For Joe:

For Baby:

  • Light blanket

  • Swaddle

Other (in my MZ Wallace diaper bag)

  • Wrapped candy for nurses and doctors (starbursts, tootsie pops, jolly ranchers, etc) HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing this; they loved it!
