Maternity Clothes

Ohhhh maternity clothes. To be honest, you are not my favorite genre of clothing. I think everyone can agree on that? However, whether I like them or not, this body is a changing and I need to be clothed in items that can fit my new body. A few things to note before reading this post. One, I tried to be as minimalistic as possible when creating a maternity wardrobe. I dont have interest in spending a ton of money on items that I won’t wear again post pregnancy. To combat this, I’m still wearing (and including below) a handful of items that aren’t necessarily “maternity”, but that get the job done. Other than those pieces, I was very selective with what I purchased. Some are more affordable and a few are “investment” pieces that I plan to wear often throughout this pregnancy.

Secondly, it is important to note that not only do I not work in a typical corporate work setting, but I am also pregnant during a pandemic. This allowed me to really limit my purchases in a massive way given that I do not have to go to “work” and I am also not seeing many people (I.e. I am wearing leggings and an oversized t-shirt majority of the time).

Either way, I hope this post helps you and assists in navigating this weird world of maternity clothing. Please find my favorite picks that have gotten me through the second trimester thus far below!

  1. Aerie corduroy overalls: as an overall addict, I thought these were a must for this fall/winter. Although not maternity, I am hoping these will continue to fit throughout the beginning of my second trimester and for these I sized one up.

  2. ASOS maternity crew neck sweater: super comfortable and, even though it is a “maternity” top, I feel I’ll even wear post-pregnancy just as an oversized look. This fit true to size.

  3. H&M MAMA overalls: I’ve heard incredible things about these overalls and since I already wear overalls 24/7, I knew I wanted a maternity pair. I got these in the denim blue and the black and they fit true to size

  4. ASOS maternity turtleneck sweater in light gray: I love a big chunky turtleneck sweater and trust that I’ll get a ton of wear out of this given the neutral color and my typical wardrobe. Again, even though it is a “maternity” top, I feel I’ll wear this post-pregnancy as well. This fit true to size

  5. Madewell maternity skinny jeans: these were definitely on the pricier side for me when it comes to maternity jeans, but I wanted to invest in one good pair to last me through the pregnancy and these came the most highly recommended from people I trust. While the whole “over the belly” look takes some getting used to, it definitely is the most comfortable option I’ve found. I, surprisingly, sized down in these.

  6. H&M chunky knit sweater: although this isn’t a “maternity” item, I figured this oversized sweater would cover and fit my bump. Can you tell I only wear neutral colors by now??

  7. ASOS maternity t-shirt pack: given that all I typically wear are gray, black, and white t-shirts, I figured this was a no-brianer

  1. Hill House nap dress: I bought this nap dress last year pre-pregnancy but it has been a life saver for me during pregnancy as it is basically an acceptable way to wear pajamas outside of the house and still look cute. Runs a bit large.

  2. Hatch Marlow dress: I love this incredibly simple black turtleneck longsleeve dress for all things fall / winter. Use code “FRECKLEDFOODIE15” for 15% off through 1/19

  3. Zara printed dress: I love this for a nicer occasion that is super comfy and tons of room to grow, even though it is not a “maternity” item. I sized up by one.

  4. Zara ruched ribbed dress: I actually bought this dress before I was pregnant and loved it as an option for my first / early second trimester. It is short, but super cute and form-fitting to pair with sneakers for a more casual look or tights and high boots for something nicer. I got it in brown and black and sized up by one

  5. Zara high collar dress: I love the look of a tight form-fitting dress while pregnant, so I got this in green and black to wear either with sneakers or tights and high boots when dressing up. Not maternity wear so I sized up by one

  6. Lulus ribbed mock neck sweater dress: another perfect dress for the fall and winter that I will definitely wear during and post pregnancy. Since it is not maternity, I sized up and ordered in heather taupe

  7. Hatch Ryan dress: a great everyday elevated t-shirt dress that I was gifted by Hatch and plan to wear weekly throughout the rest of my pregnancy. Use code “FRECKLEDFOODIE15” for 15% off through 1/19

  8. Hatch Lana dress: definitely a nicer option (but on sale right now!) this is a great dress for both everyday streetwear or an occasion to dress up (I wore mine for Christmas dinner). Use code “FRECKLEDFOODIE15” for 15% off through 1/19

  1. Lululemon align biker shorts: I lived in this pre pregnancy and have continued to wear them thus far through pregnancy as my main option for exercise bottoms. With a 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester (to come) bump, I would go up one size

  2. Beyond Yoga maternity leggings: for an ultra-rise legging, these are a perfect and incredibly soft option. My one complaint is that they sometimes fall down around the crotch area, but the high waist and material makes up for it. Fits true to size (pre-pregnancy size)

  3. Athleta ultimate bra: another great sports bra option that provides a bit more support so this is one I wear for cardio. Again, I struggle a bit with size because my boobs / rib cage don’t necessarily make for a “standard” size option, but I wear a M

  4. Beyond Yoga bodysuit: I love this look for pre/post pregnancy as well, but especially with a belly it is super cute (in my opinion) to wear with a cropped sweatshirt or t-shirt either around the house, running errands, or working out. Fits true to size (pre-pregnancy size)

  5. Skims bralette: I love all things Skims for bras and I am currently living in this comfortable t-shirt bralette for everyday wear

  6. Lululemon align leggings: while they aren’t “maternity” leggings, I am still living in my lululemon align leggings. With a 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester (to come) bump, I would go up one size

  7. Athleta exhale bra: I have been struggling hard to find a sports bra to fit my newly massive boobs, and this is one of the ones I’ve been loving. For me I struggle a bit with size because my boobs / rib cage don’t necessarily make for a “standard” size option, but I wear a M
