Beef and Broccoli

Lately I have been on a big rice kick and loving it for dinner with some form of protein and vegetable. Since beef and broccoli is one of my favorite dishes to order whenever I get takeout Chinese food, I decided to try to make my own. Easy enough of a dish to whip up on a weeknight and the leftovers were perfect for a next-day lunch.

When making this meal I looked up the origin of beef & broccoli and learned that it was originally prepared by Chinese immigrants in San Francisco when broccoli was introduced to them and they used it to try and mimic a more traditional Chinese dish called “Gai Lan Chao Niu Rou”. Because they were unable to find this Chinese variant of broccoli in the US, this dish was created as a replacement. This specific recipe below is definitely a low-ingredient style of this dish, but if you are looking to add more flavor through traditional ingredients (oyster sauce, light and dark soy sauce, etc), I found this delicious looking recipe
